In an update to a story we brought you over the weekend, we now have more information on what led to a charge of Aggravated Domestic Assault for an Auburn Police officer.

WGME reported that Lewiston Police responded on Sunday to an apartment unit on Webster Street after reports of domestic violence. When police arrived, they say that during an argument involving Stephen Easley Jr, a woman had grabbed his cell phone and ran into the bedroom.

After she ran off with the cellphone, Easley Jr proceeded to follow her, choke her and bloody her nose, WGME included in the update. The alleged victim claimed that Easley Jr held her down and proceeded to choke her with both hands. Police say there was physical evidence at the scene that supported the woman's claims.

Easley Jr was taken into custody by Lewiston Police and charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault. Easley was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail and had been placed on administrative leave from the Auburn Police Department.

WGME went on to say that Easley was originally being held without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail. However, following a court appearance on Monday, a judge set his bail at $500 cash or $250 cash with supervised release.

Currently, there is no word on the condition or identity of the victim.

A Central Maine police officer has been placed on leave pending an investigation into charges of Aggravated Domestic Assault.

According to the Sun Journal, Officer Stephen Easley Jr, an officer with the Auburn Police Department, is currently being held without bail following his arrest in Lewiston in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Sun Journal reports that Easley was taken into custody at his home at about 2 am on Sunday morning after Lewiston Police responded to the address following reports of a domestic disturbance.

Following their response to the scene, Lewiston Police took the Auburn officer into custody and charged him with Aggravated Domestic Assault. Easley is currently being held at the Androscoggin County Jail, without bail.

The Sun Journal was not immediately able to verify details as to what led to the arrest, or why the charge of domestic assault had been leveled up to 'aggravated'. Easley has since been placed on an administrative leave according to officials with the Auburn Police Department.

The newspaper went on to say that Easley has only been working for the Auburn Police Department for a few months and came to Maine from his previous hometown of Loranger, Louisiana.
