For years, Scrummy Afters was a staple in downtown Hallowell.  For some, it was a real destination.  Even though Hallowell has a lot to offer, the only reason some people (especially the families with smaller kids) made the trip to the town was for Scrummy Afters.

Sure, there are a lot of places where you can get candy in Central Maine, but there are none quite like Scrummy Afters.  The brightly-colored and fully-stocked store was as much an experience for the eyes as it was for the taste buds.

The store was always filled with an insane variety of candy.  They had everything from the classics (like caramel chews and Swedish Fish) to new and licensed candies.

The Closure of Scrummy Afters in Hallowell

Sadly, like a lot of businesses, the place did not survive the pandemic.  All of the changes that took place in 2020 made the owners re-evaluate their business model.  In April of 2020, they made the announcement that they would be closing their brick and mortar location in order to focus on online orders and their mobile store.

Lovers of the store were able to experience Scrummy Afters from the candy shop's trailer.  For the last few years, it has been frequently parked on Water Street in Hallowell, and also spotted at Maine fairs and festivals.

Now, though, it appears that Scrummy Afters is back!  Really back!

The Comeback of Scrummy Afters

Back in early September, we got word that the place was going to be re-opening in a space in Gardiner.

After a fairly lengthy search for a new permanent location in Central Maine, the owners of the candy shop and the owners of the Ampersand Academy of Dance & Performing Arts managed to come to an agreement.  The dance school agreed to play host to the candy shop.

A few days ago, the store had its official opening, complete with KV Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting.

Looking to satisfy that sweet tooth?  You can find the store at 293 Water Street in Gardiner.

For now, at least, the store is open from 10am-5pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Get more details on their Facebook page.

To the owners and staff, we want to say, "Welcome back!"
