According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, authorities are asking hunters and others spending time outdoors in the Hampden area to keep an eye out for anything that could help locate a missing 78-year-old man.

Douglas Dunphy of Hampden was reported missing in January. The Hampden Police Department began investigating on January 15 and requested assistance from the Maine State Police the following day. Due to the complexity of the case, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-North took over responsibility for the search.

For the past seven months, Hampden and Bangor police, the Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police have worked together to locate Dunphy. Extensive searches of his Kennebec Road home and surrounding properties have not located him.

With hunting season now getting underway across Maine, state police are asking people in the woods around Hampden and surrounding areas to remain vigilant.

Dunphy is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 210 pounds. He has gray hair and green eyes. Authorities do not know what he was wearing when he disappeared.
