Eddie Montgomery Enlists Darius Rucker for ‘Lucky Man’ Remake [LISTEN]
Darius Rucker lends Eddie Montgomery a hand on a re-imagining of Montgomery Gentry's 2007 hit song "Lucky Man." Readers can press play above to listen to the sentimental tune, recorded for a new hits album.
Rucker takes point on the first verse, changing the original lyrics from a reference to the Cincinnati Bengals to one to his own favorite team, the Miami Dolphins: "I have days where I hate my job / This little town, and the whole world, too," sings Rucker. "Last Sunday, when my Dolphins lost / Lord, it put me in a bad mood."
Montgomery takes over on the second verse, before the two combine for the familiar chorus, which echoes of bittersweet gratitude: "But I know I'm a lucky man / God's given me a pretty fair hand / Got a house and a piece of land / A few dollars in a coffee can / My old truck's still running good / My ticker's ticking like they say it should / I got supper in the oven, a good woman's loving / And one more day to be my little kid's dad ..."
Montgomery and Rucker's new version of "Lucky Man" was recorded as part of Montgomery Gentry's forthcoming 20th anniversary hits album, which is set for release on Nov. 16. Montgomery Gentry: 20 Years of Hits includes several tracks remade with help from some of country's biggest names. Along with Rucker, Brad Paisley, Granger Smith, Jimmie Allen, Colt Ford and more will appear on the album.
Montgomery Gentry: 20 Years of Hits was recorded before Troy Gentry's untimely death in a helicopter crash in 2017, a press release reports. The album is available for pre-order now.
