UPDATE (May 9th at 5 PM): According to Schmidt's sister, she has been in contact with him and he's okay.

The family of Mark Schmidt, who had been living in Belfast, is reaching out for the public's help in locating him. He was last seen in the Gardiner area this morning, May 9th.

According to Schmidt's sister, Jasmine Greenleaf, he left his car behind and indicated he was leaving Maine. Greenleaf said he was last seen hitchhiking on I-95, by a state trooper who dropped him off at the Gardiner exit. She then said that the trooper told Schmidt that it is illegal to hitchhike on the Interstate to which Schmidt asked the best way to legally leave the state. The trooper told him to follow route 201 which was where he was last seen.

Greenleaf said they are concerned for her brother's safety, if anyone happens to see him, she requests you call her at 207-930-9691
