Maine State Police Involving Fatal Crash Involving Tractor Traile

The Maine State Police are in the process of investigating a fatal crash that took place in the Town of Stetson on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, just after 1 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2025, members of the Maine State Police responded to a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Lapoint Road and Merrill Road in Stetson.

According to the early investigation, a fully loaded tractor-trailer was heading north on Lapoint Road when it failed to stop at the stop sign. That’s when it collided with a dump truck that was traveling east on Merrill Road. The impact sent the tractor-trailer into a utility pole, snapping it in half. The pole landed on top of the truck and left a tangle of wires and debris at the scene.

The dump truck, which was also fully loaded at the time, ended up flipping onto its passenger side from the force of the collision.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 39-year-old Peter Omweno of Texas, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the dump truck, 64-year-old Scott Webber of Glenburn, sadly died while on the way to the hospital.

In the hours following the crash, the intersection was shut down as first responders, investigators, and utility crews worked the scene. Police were on hand for several hours documenting the crash and trying to piece together exactly what went wrong.

This crash remains under investigation by the Maine State Police. Anyone who may have seen what happened is encouraged to contact them with information.
