Iconic Maine Amusement Park Won’t Be Open Seven Days A Week This Summer
Like many businesses across the country, it appears the staffing shortage has hit one of New England's most beloved amusement parks.
Earlier today, Funtown Splashtown USA in Saco announced on their Facebook page that they would not be open on Mondays this season.
The post says, in part:
For the 2022 season, Funtown Splashtown USA will be closed on Mondays. This was not an easy decision, and trust that no one is more disappointed than we are here at the park. The fact of the matter is that we just do not have the staffing needed to properly run the operation 7 days a week. Anyone who keeps up on current affairs realizes that this is an issue not only in the state of Maine, but nationwide. Shortened hours of service, and businesses closed on days that they have traditionally been open, seem to have become all too commonplace. We certainly hoped to avoid these circumstances, but this year hiring has become even more difficult than last summer
According to the Facebook post, it takes about 200 people each day to run all departments of both the amusement park and water park. Attempting to run the park with fewer employees leads to a drop in the quality of service provided to their guests. Not surprisingly, that is the last thing they want.
On the post, someone inquired about the 4th of July, as July 4th lands on a Monday this year. The page did respond to the person to explain that they would be closed on Independence Day, but that they would be holding their fireworks display on Sunday, July 3rd.
If you remember, the park was completely closed in 2020 due to the pandemic and the operators of the park dealt with some staffing issues in 2021.
