Gov. Mills Named One Of The “Women Of The Century” By USA Today
According to WCSH 6, USA Today has named the state's sitting governor as one of Maine's "Women Of The Century".
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, USA Today is spotlighting women who've made 'significant contributions' to their state.
The series is spotlighting ten women from each state. Each of the highlighted women has to have made achievements in the arts, politics, business, science, medicine, or sports. And, they must have lived between 1920 and 2020.
Governor Janet Mills' achievements include being Maine's first female attorney general and the state’s first female governor.
Other Mainers honored include Frances Perkins, the first woman appointed to a presidential cabinet, Senator Olympia Snowe, and suffragist and author Florence Brooks Whitehouse.
