Hey this was MY idea... GPS chips in certain drug bottles. Well, the New York Police Department wants pharmacies in and around NYC to fight prescription drug thefts by stocking pill bottles fitted with GPS tracking chips. With so many pharmacy robberies in Maine last year, we can see where this is a good idea.

The Police Commissioner outlined the project at a California conference on health issues hosted by former President Bill Clinton's foundation. The commissioner said the NYPD is concerned about a growing potential for crimes related to the black market for painkillers and other highly addictive prescription drugs. The NYPD is proposing to distribute GPS bottles for pharmacists to hide on their shelves with legitimate supplies. So, where there is a robbery, the police would be able to track the location of the drug bottle.
