According to the KJ, a 57 year old Hallowell man is safe after being rescued from the flood-level waters of the Kennebec River.

Clyde Penney was rescued by Marine Patrol officers after capsizing his kayak in the Kennebec River on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews from several agencies searched the banks of the river for several hours after a passenger-less kayak was spotted floating down the river.

Marine Patrol officers picked him up from the bank of the river in Chelsea and returned him to where he launched at approximately 4 PM.

Given the swollen condition of the river, law enforcement cautions people about boating at this time.
