Sarah 2 weeks

I can't believe two weeks ago I was in the OR getting unzipped!  Time flies!  I have nothing to compare it to, but I think for someone who just had brain surgery and her neck fused....I think I'm doing pretty darn fantastic!!  Pain is minimal and the worst part is that I'm ansy. I'm ready to get back to my normal routine...however, my body isn't.

What a lot of people didn't realize was that before surgery, I spent most of my time in bed.

Simple tasks like dishes and laundry were very difficult to do.  Going to the grocery store was agony.  My head always hurt.  But due to the craniocervical instability, my head felt like it weighed 50 pounds.  I was miserable.  A kind of miserable that made me wonder why I was even alive.  Simple things that others do naturally, without fear, caused me extreme pain.  Laughing and coughing brought on such intense headaches, it usually brought me to tears.

Now that I'm 2 weeks post op from my posterior fossa decompression and craniocervical fusion...I can safely say my pressure headaches are gone.  At the risk of sharing too much information, imagine every time you push to poop...imagine someone hitting you behind the head with a bat.  Each push equals one whack with a bat.  I don't have that anymore!!  The things we take for granted.

Not everything is peachy.  I still have a long recovery.  As a result from the surgery,  my tongue is numb.  Also my right thumb and index finger are numb and have an electrical sensation in them.  I also detest my neck brace.  Hate it!  But I'm stuck with it for many months.  Over time this will improve.

A milestone yesterday. ..I was able to shower and get my incision wet.  It was heaven!

As long as recovery continues to go well, I should be back on the Morning Buzz in April!
