Here’s How Much Snow Central Maine is Likely to Get Friday into Saturday

Yes, I know it's Thursday and that technically there is a winter storm today, too. Why am I not talking about that one first? Okay, fine. Today's mild inconvenience in the weather will bring an estimated 1-2" of snow to the Central Maine area. And that's ONLY if temps don't climb too quickly throughout the day.

Okay, there. Now, on to the bigger fish! I don't even like fish. Anyway, the question everyone has been asking. "Matt, we keep hearing about a 'big' storm on the way for the weekend. You have absolutely no meteorological training or knowledge, please tell us your expert opinion on this weekend's potential snowfall!"

Well, you're in luck. I may not have any training in tracking weather forecasts, but what I DO have is an uncanny knack for reading Ryan Munn's (WGME) forecast, and passing it on to you. You see, Ryan is an actual trained and working Maine meteorologist. He's definitely making way more money than I am, and his parents are way prouder of how he turned out.

After today's storm, another one is on its heels and headed into Maine late Friday. This bigger storm, which aims to be an all snow event, is going to be another one of those longer duration situations that hangs over Maine through Saturday evening, causing a mess of travel for the first half of the weekend. Temps on Saturday will be tolerable, and into the upper 20s during the storm.

For most of us in Central Maine, we can expect bands of heavy snowfall to occur throughout the day on Saturday. But, what about those tasty snowfall totals? Let me punt back to Mr. Munn at WGME for that. Standby for a handy dandy info-graphic.

While there are no numerics on this graphic, what we can see is that the greater Central Maine area is shaded in the 3-6" blue right now. However, according to WGME, it's likely that by the end of the storm, Central Maine will have between 5-10 inches of fresh powder on the ground. Yay!
