How Will Hurricane Erin Affect Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts?
Even though the Atlantic Hurricane Season began in June, we are just now preparing to deal with our first hurricane of the season.
Earlier this week, we were told that meteorologists were keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Erin as they were pretty certain that the storm was going to strengthen into a hurricane. As of Friday, that is exactly what happened.
The storm was of particular interest to those of us in the northeast because it appeared the storm may arc toward the north. So far, that is what meteorologists are predicting.
Hurricane Erin on Friday
According to NBC News, a tropical storm watch has just been issued for parts of the Caribbean, including Anguilla, Barbuda, St. Martin, St. Barthelemy, Saba, St. Eustatius, and Sint Maarten.
If you’re not familiar, a tropical storm watch means conditions could turn stormy within the next 48 hours, so folks there are keeping a close eye on the skies.
Will Hurricane Erin Affect New England and New York?
As of Friday afternoon, the projected plot of the storm shows it continuing to head northward. By Wednesday morning, it will be off the coast of the Carolinas.
If it continues heading north it could be off the coast of New York and New England by later next week.
However, it appears to be quite a distance out to see. Unless it comes more westward, there is a good chance all we will see from the storm are some wind, some rain, and slightly higher than normal waves.
Clearly, we'll keep an eye on the plot of the storm over the next few days.
