Even though Maine is a great place to live (and visit) all year long, there really is no denying that the state comes alive in the summer.  We've got beaches, a national park, cool towns to explore, and some really great amusement parks.

Even though the state is home to a bunch of well known amusement parks and water parks, the granddaddy of them all is Palace Playland.

For over a century, the beachfront amusement park has been entertaining Mainers and visitors alike.  When the park first opened in 1902, it was a lot more basic.  Back then, the main offerings were a roller skating rink, a carousel, and light refreshments (lemonade and salt water taffy).

These days, the park offers A LOT more!  The place has a massive arcade, lots of food, and tons of rides, too.

If you have little kids, they've got rides like a carousel, tea cups, a fun house, the euro slide, and the frog hopper.  The park has family rides like the Dodgems (bumper cars), the Tilt-a-Whirl, and the Electra Wheel.  And, for the big kids, they have rides like Pirate, Power Surge, and Matterhorn.

According to the amusement park's website, they have set an official opening date for the 2023 season.  The rides will open to the public on Saturday, May 27th.  That's the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

Of course, if you're up for some pinball or an old school arcade experience, the amusement park's massive arcade is open on select days from now till the rest of the park opens.

If you have, for some reason, never been to the park, check out this video:
