Since 2022, the Augusta area has had the pleasure of hosting the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon.

Featuring swimming, running, and biking, this event attracts thousands of athletes from around the world.  When you consider the athletes, their friends/families, and all of the staff required to make the event happen, that means there are tens of thousands of people visiting our corner of the world each July.

In addition to putting a spotlight on Central Maine, the event injects millions of dollars into our economy.

So, most will agree that the economic benefits are worth the minor traffic issues the event causes.

Ironman 70.3 Maine Traffic Alerts

If you normally travel through the Augusta area on a daily basis you'll probably see an uptick in traffic starting Thursday.

Friday is likely to be even busier.

As the event is scheduled for Sunday morning, the main road closures will begin on Saturday evening.

For example, you'll have no access to Front Street (along the Kennebec River) from Thursday through Sunday morning.  Also, Union Street (Capitol Park) in Augusta starting at 5 PM on Saturday and the Augusta Greenway Boat Landing starting at 10 PM on Saturday.

Of course, on race day, there will be dozens of roads and intersections across our region that will either have delays or be completely closed.

Get all the details about how specific roads will be affected HERE.
