Here’s a record that didn’t start out to be a record but has become one.

Larry Merrill was about 5 years into his ‘habit’ before he realized what was happening. Merrill has paddled his kayak for 25 years each month in Maine, no matter the weather. Merrill, 73 years old, marked his 301st consecutive month as he paddled for at least 20 minutes in Maine waters.

The streak started in February 1993 and he has been regularly paddling each month since.

Bangordailynews.com says he does have his limit of paddling in cold weather, 20 degrees is his limit.

Merrill who is a semi-retired attorney says January and February are usually the hardest months but December is usually easy.

Merrill says he will continue the streak as long as possible preferring it end the month he dies.
