Couple Tied Up at Gunpoint During Belgrade Marijuana Robbery
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery at a legal marijuana growing operation in Belgrade after authorities say three men tied up a couple and stole marijuana and cash.
Deputies were called to a property on Bartlett Road following a report of an armed robbery at the growing facility.
According to WGME, investigators say three men entered the building and restrained the couple by tying their hands. At least one of the suspects was armed and allegedly pointed a gun at the victims while they were being tied up.
The suspects reportedly remained inside the building for more than three hours. During that time, authorities say they took all of the marijuana being stored at the facility, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Despite being held at gunpoint and restrained for several hours, deputies say neither victim was physically injured during the robbery.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the marijuana growing operation was legal and properly licensed through the State of Maine. The Maine Office of Marijuana Policy has been notified about the incident.
Authorities have not released descriptions of the three suspects or provided details about the type of vehicle they may have been driving. It is also unclear exactly when the robbery happened or how the suspects gained access to the building.
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the robbery. No arrests had been announced, and no additional information about potential suspects was immediately available.
