Maine High School Students Collect More Than 1,300 Jars of PB&J for Families in Need
If there's one thing we love seeing here in central Maine, it's our communities coming together to help neighbors in need. And the students at Erskine Academy in South China just gave us another great reason to smile!
According to Erskine, the school recently wrapped up its PB&J Drive, collecting an incredible 1,314 jars of peanut butter and jelly to help local families facing food insecurity.
And here's where the story gets even sweeter than the jelly!
Bangor Savings Bank is matching the school's entire donation, potentially bringing the combined contribution to 2,628 jars!
Students from all four classes got involved in a little friendly competition, with the sophomores taking home bragging rights after collecting a whopping 562 jars. The freshmen weren't far behind with 443, followed by the seniors with 202 and juniors with 88.
Meanwhile, Ms. MacDonald's freshman homeroom earned top honors among individual homerooms, collecting an impressive 187 jars!
The school also received additional donations from families and community members.
With our own 92 Moose and B98.5 Camp Out Hunger happening November 2nd through the 6th, this is exactly the kind of generosity we love celebrating!
Erskine Academy's students are proving that you don't have to be a grown-up to make a big difference in your community.
Congratulations to the students, staff, families, and everyone who helped make this amazing effort possible.
And seriously, that's a LOT of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!
