Central Maine Mail Carrier Dead Following Crash While Working

It was a tragic end to a crash that happened mid-morning on Saturday according to US Postal Service officials.

According to an article published by the Kennebec Journal, a woman working for the United States Postal Service died as a result of her injuries sustained during an apparent motor vehicle crash over the weekend.

The KJ is reporting that the crash, which happened in the town of Litchfield, Maine, occurred around 9 in the morning on Saturday.

The woman, whose identity has not been made public, was trapped in the mail truck following the incident. The vehicle, an older model mail truck according to the USPS,  had apparently rolled over onto its side. When rescuers arrived on scene, the woman was taken out of the vehicle by crews with the Gardiner Ambulance Service.

She was then quickly transported to the hospital with what officials say were serious injuries. Sadly, she later passed away at the hospital from the injuries she had sustained in the rollover.

The USPS released a statement saying in part,

“Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and coworkers as they navigate this tragic loss,”

Saturday morning's crash happened near the intersection of Huntington Hill Road and Quackenbush Lane in Litchfield, the KJ reported.

First responders that rushed to the scene included the Litchfield and Gardiner fire departments and multiple police units.
