Maine Man Accused of Setting Bed on Fire During Argument With Girlfriend
A Wiscasset man is facing several serious charges, including attempted murder, after police say he intentionally set a fire inside his home during an argument with his girlfriend.
According to authorities, officers responded Monday to a home on Beechnut Hill Road following a report that a fire had been deliberately started inside the residence. When police arrived, they began investigating the incident and determined the fire had been intentionally set.
WGME reported that 41-year-old Terry Couture, the homeowner, allegedly set a bed on fire while he and his girlfriend were lying in it. Police say the incident happened after the couple became involved in a disagreement.
Despite the dangerous situation, officials say no serious injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Couture was taken into custody and is now facing several charges. Those charges include attempted murder, arson, aggravated criminal mischief, and domestic violence criminal threatening, the news station reported.
Police have not released additional details about what led up to the argument or how the fire was extinguished. Authorities also have not said whether the home sustained significant damage.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Anyone who may have additional information about the situation is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
WGME went on to say the charges are extremely serious and the case will now move through the court system as investigators continue to gather details surrounding what happened inside the Beechnut Hill Road home Monday.
