"Nothing charms like a small downtown that beckons visitors with historic architecture and boutique shops or local culture and tree-lined streets." - HGTV
Maine has some pretty charming downtowns, and it makes sense that HGTV would pick one of the more popular ones. But it's hard not to love any of the downtowns as you drive all over Maine. However, Bar Harbor has the Frenchman Bay on Mount Desert Island, and that is some tough competition.
Here's what HGTV said in part about Bar Harbor, Maine:
New England's prestigious summer resort town and the gateway to stunning Acadia National Park. This charming town is a popular summer escape for all kinds of visitors, thanks to its boutique shops, nautical views and outdoor activities like windjammer cruises and electric bike tours and rentals. Don't miss the wild blueberries. A breakfast stop for wild blueberry pancakes at Jordan’s Restaurant is essential, and be sure to order a scoop of lobster ice cream from Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium.
They are right about Ben & Bill's Chocolate Emporium. It's the only place in Maine where you can buy lobster ice cream. No, that's not a joke, and it's been around for decades, and it's supposed to be tasty!
