More accolades are being thrown the way of Maine's largest city.

A new article from the pop culture site BCV Magazine has just dropped, and it's all about America's beauty. In this case, the magazine compiled a list of the 20 most beautiful cities in the United States. It's a true "who's who" of gorgeous cities nationwide, and yes, Portland made the cut.

This is certainly not surprising to us locals, who spend considerable time in the Forest City. The town is unquestionably beautiful, with its regal coastal setting peppered with pretty islands, historic forts, iconic harbor, historic architecture, and cobblestone streets. It's a wonderful smorgasbord of evolution and tradition.

It's easy to see that Portland cares about preserving its history. This is very evident in the downtown district, where many old brownstones still stand. It's pretty typical to see tourists pointing their cameras at buildings left and right while walking though the town. Portland also has numerous living museums like the Tate House and Victoria Mansion, which show off its history while helping the city's character to thrive.

And yes, I did mention those cobblestones. Sure, they may be difficult to walk on (especially after a few adult beverages), but they are such a unique and wonderful part of the city. The stones tell their own historic story, taking us all back before the days of flat, paved roads. These legendary stones are a treasure. Here's hoping to many more generations of their existence.

Like any other American city, Portland has seen a massive building boom. While some new construction has become an eyesore, the majority of it has fortunately fit right in. Hordes of brick-built hotels, condos, and apartment buildings have helped Portland keep its rustic feel, even in these very innovative times.

While all of these are great reasons why Portland is beautiful, they all bow down to its incredible location. The views of Casco Bay and Back Bay are first class, and the skyline is classic. And venues like Hadlock Field, Thompson's Point, and East End Beach allow visitors to truly enjoy the city's true, natural splendor.

Here is a little of why BCV Magazine selected Portland as one of the most beautiful cities in America.

Famous for its picturesque harbor and historic architecture, Portland’s charming waterfront has a vibrant arts scene and fresh seafood that complement the vibe of the city. Even though it’s the largest city in Maine, it still feels like a quaint town.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Portland absolutely gives off town vibes over city vibes. And you know what? That's okay with all of us here, because we Mainers like that town speed and spirit.

Portland wasn't the only New England city to make this top 20 list. Both Boston, Massachusetts, and Newport, Rhode Island, made cameos on this prestigious list. You can check out all 20 of the cities here.
