According to the Lewiston Sun Journal, 18 year old Lewiston High School student Joao Rodrigues Victor was one of nine finalists at the Poetry Out Loud finals in Washington D. C.

Victor, who moved to the US from Angola three years ago, recited Vijay Seshardi's "Green Copper Kettles".

While being interviewed by the host, he gave shout outs to Lewiston High School and several of his teachers.  While he did not win, that honor went to Minnesota high school student Isabella Callery, he did walk away with a participation medal and an experience that he'll always remember.
