Lisbon Man Dies In A Hit-And-Run Crash In Florida

I write this with a very heavy heart. I learned this morning, that an old friend of mine, Robert Michael Paul Roy, 33, died after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 10 in Florida this past Sunday morning.

Robert was originally from Lisbon and was a wonderful father of two sons, Christian and Brady, had a fairytale marriage of 9-years to a wonderful lady, Jessica, who is also originally from Norway. Rob was a proud member of the United States Navy and was a ABE Chief stationed at Whiting Field in Florida.

Rob was a 1997 graduate of Lisbon High School and had a career in the U.S.Navy. Rob's mother and father, Janey and Don Rivard, reside in Lisbon, Rob has a younger sister Ashley Rivard and younger brother Ricky Rivard.

Rob was everybody's friend. I honestly did not know anyone who didn't like Rob. Rob and I were on a dart team several years ago, and like everything he did, Rob made sure he was the best at what he did.

Even though I hadn't seen Rob, Jess & the kids in many years, I would see the updates on of their lives on Facebook and I would smile inside with pride of what a great man he had turned into. Rob and Jessica were everything of what was right with America. Hard-working, dedicated and family. We lost a good one. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jess, the boys and the rest of the family.

Jessica, tells me that a service will be held in Maine, as well as a memorial service in Florida.

I want to share what a great Dad Rob was, this sums up what Rob was all about.

Brianna Lynn Strum,25, of Milton, Florida has been charged with DUI manslaughter in the hit-and-run accident. Strum's vehicle rammed the Dodge Charger, causing the vehicle to veer into a grass median, where it overturned and Roy was thrown from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The crash also injured the driver of the Dodge Charger, Miguel Antonio Bonet and passengers, Michael J. Edwards and Bernard Ulgalde.

Strum was arrested by Santa Rosa County sheriff's deputies and charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI serious injury and leaving the scene of a crash with death. Her bond has been set at $605,000.
