Parts of Maine Facing Dangerous Heatwave This Week

Typically, we don't often have to worry about extreme heat here in Maine.  If we are lucky, we get a few days each summer that top out in-excess of 90 degrees.  However, these days are very rare.

Well, it looks like we may be facing one such heatwave later this week.

According to the National Weather Service, Central Maine (Augusta / Waterville area) will be under an extreme heat watch from Wednesday through Friday.  The watch will run from noon on Wednesday through 8 PM on Friday.

The warm weather actually starts today (Monday).  It will be sunny with a high of 89 on Monday and sunny with a high of 91 on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, we could see a high of around 93 degrees with partly sunny skies.  On Thursday, it will be mostly sunny with a high just shy of 100 degrees.  On Friday, it will start to cool off a little.  We'll see partly sunny skies with a high of around 95 degrees.

In Southern Maine, the temperatures will be a little cooler.  From Wednesday through Sunday, people can expect temperatures between 87 and 95 degrees.

During that same period of time, Northern Maine will see temperatures in the upper 80s and (maybe) lower 90s.

What Will the Weather Be Like For the 4th of July?

According to the National Weather Service, the weather for the 4th of July will be partly sunny for most of the state.  There will be a slim chance of thunderstorms in some areas.  As for the temperatures, Central Maine will see highs in the upper 80s.  The coastal and northern parts of the state will see temperatures in the lower 80s.

Of course, we are still several days out so this could change.
