According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, a man from Fairfield was killed after he was struck by a tractor-trailer.

The press release explains that, at about 3:30 a.m. on Friday morning, the Bangor Regional Communications Center received a call indicating that a tractor-trailer had struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the off-ramp on the southbound side of exit 132 in Fairfield.

When they arrived, troopers discovered that 49-year-old Mark Michaud, of Fairfield, had been killed when he was struck by the rig.

That truck was driven by a 19-year-old man from Milford, Maine.

The press release goes on to explain that:

The Maine State Police Accident Reconstruction Team analyzed the scene, while the Maine State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle unit conducted an inspected the tractor-trailer unit.  Troop I troopers will continue to investigate the crash.

We are being told that the ramp, which had been closed for several hours during the investigation, has reopened.

Our thoughts go out to all those involved in this tragedy.

This is the second traffic-related fatality in Maine in 2025.  A person had been killed in an early New Year's Day crash in Falmouth.  There were at least 164 traffic deaths in Maine in 2024.
