State Senator Roger Katz of Augusta had sponsored the bill LS 1270, that would allow physician-assisted suicide in Maine but only with conditions that include the patient has to take lethal drugs by his or her own hand after significant counseling from health care professionals.

The State Senate voted 18-17 against the bill.

The bill faces more votes in the House and Senate.

Responses from our story yesterday had many more comments from our listeners that would support the bill then were against it.
