Maine came in as the third lowest state to make a living according to MoneyRates.com. The biggest negative for Maine is workplace accidents, illnesses and injuries. Maine tied for the highest in the nation.

Other factors for the state are the average wage is below the national average while the cost of living is more than above the national average. Job growth in the state is expected to be sluggish compared to the rest of the nation. The Maine Department of Labor says the job growth in the state will grow by only 2.3 per cent over the next 10 years.

Oregon and Hawaii are the only two states that have a lower rating than Maine.
