According to WGME 13, a man is in custody following an armed standoff that happened Wednesday evening in Brunswick.

Officials report that 38-year-old, Richard Simpson of Tacoma, Washington, was staying in a room at the Best Western located on Gurnet Road in Brunswick.

WGME says that police were called to hotel Wednesday evening after receiving reports that Gurnet was threatening staff with a knife. As police were responding to the scene the man went back to his room and refused to come back out.

During that time it's reported that Gurnet was threatening to also stab responding officers. WGME says that the Brunswick Special Response team arrived on scene and were able to get access to the room and eventually take the subject into custody.
