When is Market Basket in Topsham, Maine, Opening?
Over the last few weeks, we have had a few listeners reach out to us with the same question. They all wanted to know when the Topsham location of Market Basket would be opening.
If you remember, it was back in October of 2022 when it was announced that Maine would be getting another Market Basket location. This new location, the chain’s third in the state, would be opening in Topsham. The chain had previously opened locations in Biddeford and Westbrook.
After seeing this question pop up several times, we decided we would do some research.
We found that there is good news and not-so-good news.
The good news is that the company website is loaded with pictures of the construction at the Topsham store’s site. The photos, which were taken in October of 2023, show that the basic shell of the store is taking shape. It also shows that they have started installing the floor. Of course, these pictures were taken about three months ago, so we can assume that the work is farther along by now.
The not-so-good news is that the store’s projected opening is still listed as “to be announced”.
Yes, they have yet to announce exactly when the new location will be open.
You may be wondering why people are so excited about a new grocery store. After all, it is just a place to buy food, right? Until recently, I would have been wondering the same thing. But since visiting the North Conway location in December, I have a much better understanding of peoples’ enthusiasm about the store.
Even though Market Basket stores are super modern, they have a throwback feel. All of the staff are dressed nicely (in sport jackets), there are no self-checkouts, and the staff are very attentive. It is like something you would have seen at a supermarket in the 1960s or 1970s.
Also, in some cases, their prices are much lower than other grocery stores in a particular area.
As I mentioned above, despite the throwback feel, the stores are very modern. They all have mini-coffee shops, great bakeries, and cafes where you can get cooked-to-order meals.
Hopefully, we’ll get a confirmed opening date for the Topsham location soon.
