The much needed road work on Mount Vernon Avenue in Augusta is set to begin on Monday, July 13th. The state will begin rebuilding the road, the $4.3 million project will finish years of work. Last year part of the road was resurfaced.

The project will mean traffic delays for about the next three months.

During the road work, part of Mount Vernon Avenue will only allow one-way northbound traffic. A detour will have people leaving The Marketplace at Augusta to make a left turn onto Townsend Road to reach Northern Avenue and Augusta's south and east sides.

Business owners are concerned that the road work will severely hurt their bottom line.
