According to WABI TV 5, two pedestrians were struck and injured in a Thursday evening incident that occurred on College Avenue in Waterville.

WABI reports that prior to being struck, a 21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man began to cross the road. While crossing the road and they were struck and injured by a vehicle.

The news station also reported that the pedestrians did not have the right-of-way in this particular scenario. Police say by the time the pair made it into the roadway, the oncoming vehicle simply did not have the time to stop and avoid a collision.

WABI reports that both the 23-year-old man and the 21-year-old woman were transported to the hospital. As of Thursday morning there was no word on the condition of either victim.

WABI says that police are urging pedestrians to always use crosswalks and/or traffic signals when crossing roadways to help prevent future vehicle/pedestrian collisions.

The driver in this crash was not hurt.
