While we work through the swamp days of July, Maine hockey fans have something to look forward to this upcoming season, the fact there will BE one! After the Pirates moved out of state, officials have been looking for a replacement. They've found one in the ECHL. Earlier this year, Comcast Spectacor purchased the Alaska ECHL franchise and announced plans in move it to Portland. The company also owns the Philadelphia Flyers, although the team in Portland will not be an affiliate of the NHL team, which already is associated with an ECHL franchise in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Starting Thursday, the team will hold a press conference which is expected to answer a number of questions. However, one important question will be posed to the public in a new contest; what to call the new team?
