According to a report by the Wall Street Journal canned tuna is almost extinct. Sales have dropped over 40% in the last 30 years according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. I grew up on canned tuna. I love canned tuna. I love the value of canned tuna! But, apparently I'm not to blame. The industry places the blame on younger millennial consumers, who long for, and spend their money on fresher, more convenient options.

"A lot of millennials don't even own can openers," Andy Mecs, the vice president of marketing and innovation for Starkist, said to the Journal. Convenience is the name of the game today. Tuna pouches don't require a can opener, and sales of pouched tuna are increasing by 20 percent annually. For the first time ever pouches are outselling cans.

At the end of the day, I don't really care whether my tuna comes in a can or a pouch as long as it can be recycled but if the cans do go away I will surely miss how nicely they stack in the cupboard!

What say you?
