The Oakland, Maine Town Council approved a new noise ordinance after a 4-1 vote. The ordinance had been discussed for weeks before being approved. So what does the new ordinance mean?

It will create penalties for residents who engage in what the council has defined 'unnecessary noise'.

The ordinance, which takes effect immediately, forbids any person to cause annoyance to others intentionally or recklessly by making 'loud and unreasonable noises' after being ordered by law enforcement to stop.

The first offense is a $100 fine, $250 for the second, $500 for a third offense and $1,000 fine for the fourth and all subsequent offenses.

So what do you think of this new noise ordinance?
