**UPDATE** As of 10:15 AM, the Chief reported Leighton Road is back open to traffic

We began receiving reports from listeners just after 9:00 Thursday morning that there was a large emergency response followed by partial road closures near Leighton Road in Augusta.

After reaching out directly to Augusta Fire Chief, Dave Groder, it can be confirmed that crews were responding to a house fire on the Leighton Road.

Chief Groder also tells Townsquare Media that though no people were injured in the fire, one pet did pass away.

We will continue to update this article with more information as it becomes available. As always, we thank our local first-responders for putting their lives on the line to help keep us, and our community, safe.
