Five College Football Bowl games played on Saturday, December 28th and we are getting closer to the January 1st National Title Playoff Games.  Saturday showed again in the bowl games, the team with the better record usually wins, but not always.

Military Bowl: Momentum changed in this game in the third quarter when Virginia Tech recovered a fumble for a touchdown.  J.C. Coleman became the first Hokie running back to rush for 100 yards in back-to-back games since 2011. Virginia Tech (7-6) 33, Cincinnati (9-4) 17.

Hyundai Bowl: Arizona State (10-3) beat Duke (9-4) 36-31. The score was closer than the game. Arizona State played a clean game with only 10 yards in penalties and no turnovers while Duke turned the ball over twice. The biggest turnover came as Duke was driving with time running out and QB Anthony Boone was picked off by State’s Kweishi Brown on the 14 yard line.

Duck Commander Bowl: South Carolina (7-6) went up by two scores with 4:13 left but Miami (6-7) scored with 2:11 to go. Miami never got the ball back as South Carolina converted a 3rd down with a minute and a half to go in the game. Miami had more yards from scrimmage in the game but two crucial turnovers helped the Gamecocks secure the win, 24-21.

Pinstripe Bowl: This game was played at Yankee Stadium and went to overtime as Penn State (7-6) beat Boston College (7-6) 31-30.  Both teams did what they do, Penn State threw the ball as QB Christian Hackenberg passed for 371 yards, and Boston College ran the ball for 285 yards on 46 attempts.  In overtime Boston College scored a touchdown first but missed the extra point, Penn State got their chance in OT and scored a touchdown and ‘made’ the extra point for the win.

Holiday Bowl: This game saw two 9-4 teams end the game on a failed Hail Mary pass knocked down in the end zone as time expired. USC hung on to beat Nebraska 45-41. USC used big plays on their way to the win, one, a 98 yard kickoff return and the other, a 71 yard catch and run, both by Adoree Jackson.
