Week one of college football had some big match ups, match ups that could determine a team’s season and their chance to play in the four team playoff at the end of the year.  Here’s a look at the first week and the top 25.

Number 1 Florida State beat Oklahoma State 37-31 to tie a school record with 17 straight wins.  OK State had a chance to take the lead in the fourth quarter but QB J.W. Walsh fumbled and FSU went on the score.

Number 2 Alabama ran for 239 yards and three touchdowns in their win over West Virginia. With 1:30 left in the game Alabama’s defense shut down the Mountaineers on a 4th and 11 and the Tide hung on for the win 33-23.

Number 3 Oregon had no trouble beating South Dakota 61-13. The Ducks have a 10 game home-opener win streak.

Number 4 Oklahoma score 31 points in the first two quarters, scoring on all but one procession while holding Louisiana Tech to just 89 yards. Sooners win 48-16

Number 5 Ohio State behind new QB J.T. Barrett, who threw for 2 touchdowns in the second half, beat Navy 34-17.

Number 6 Auburn was in a tight game with Arkansas for the first three quarters but their rushing game picked up in the second half. In the first two quarters the Tiger’s rushed for only 68 yards, when all was said and done they totaled 302 yards rushing. Final Auburn 45-21.

University of Maine opened their season at home against Norfolk and it was the defense that came forward as the Black Bears hung on for the win 10-6. The Black Bear defense held Norfolk to just 10 first downs and 100 total yards in the win.
