Like nearly every industry these days, school systems are having trouble finding enough qualified employees.

The need includes classroom teachers, office staff, janitorial staff, and bus drivers.

As a result, we have seen some schools begin offering massive sign-on bonuses for bus drivers.

According to WGME, one Maine school district is offering new bus drivers a $6,000 bonus.

The article explains that RSU 21, which encompasses Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Arundel, is now offering bus drivers a $6,000 bonus.  They had been offering new drivers a $5,000 bonus, but upped it in an attempt to fill open positions.

In addition to the bonus, the pay for drivers is pretty decent.  Depending on experience, they are offering between $20 and $25 per hour.

If you are interested, you need to keep in mind that you do not get the full bonus on the day you start work. The $6,000 bonus is given incrementally over a few years.  New hires with a CDL will get the first $1,000 of the bonus on the day they're hired.  Then, they will be given a $2,000 bonus after they have been driving for a year.  They'll get the remaining $3,000 after they have been driving for two years.

Depending on your mindset, this could be the perfect job.  A few hours of work in the morning, a break in the middle of the day, and a few hours of work in the afternoon.  Additionally, you get weekends off, summers off, and 11 paid holidays.
