Officials at the NewPage Paper Mill in Rumford announced yesterday that about 45 workers will be laid off. The layoffs will begin at the end of the month and continue through April.NewPage had announced in December 2012 that it completed financial restructuring and emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Rumford Town Manager Carlo Puiia told the Lewiston Sun-Journal, 'we're always concerned when any jobs get lost. It touches everybody in a town like this.' He added that the layoffs might have an impact on the town budget.

The layoffs in Rumford are part of a larger cutback for NewPage. NewPage announced it will lay off 300 people in central Wisconsin.
