NewPage announced yesterday that it would shut down a paper machine at the mill in Rumford in mid-February due to tough economic times. The mill employees 830 people and about 120 workers are expected to be laid off.

NewPage paper company will temporarily lay off around 120 hourly maintenance workers next week, that's according to mill spokesman Anthony Lyons. Lyons told the Lewiston Sun Journal that the layoffs are a 'cost containment and money-saving' move.
Officials at the NewPage Paper Mill in Rumford announced yesterday that about 45 workers will be laid off. The layoffs will begin at the end of the month and continue through April.
