Darlene Bowden had been a school lunch lady at the Irving Middle School in Pocatello, Idaho for three years. One day during school lunch a 12-year-old girl told her that she didn't have any money for lunch and she was very hungry.

Darlene handed her some food and told the girl that she'll take care of it.

The supervisor saw what happened and reported her. Bowden received a letter informing her that she had been terminated for 'theft'.
