The “Senior Assassin” Game Called a Safety Risk by Law Enforcement – Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts Take Note
Back in the early 1980s, there was a movie about college students playing a game called TAG. The idea was that the students were supposed to "assassinate" their fellow students by shooting them with a suction cup dart.
Now, it appears that a real life version of TAG is being played on some college campuses and police are concerned.
Given the state of the world today, and the number of awful things we have seen happen at our colleges and schools over the last few years, police are concerned that the harmless game may cause a panic.
According to WCSH 6, in a social media post, the Yorktown Indiana Police Department stressed that no activity is worth injuries, panic, or making the public feel unsafe. The department added that seniors should still enjoy the season and make memories, but in a way that doesn’t put others at risk.
The warning follows several incidents across multiple states, including Texas, Indiana, and Louisiana.
In Texas, officers responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. on April 3 reporting several people running through a parking lot with what looked like guns, according to KCEN-TV. Police detained eight teens but later released them.
In Louisiana, the Kenner Police Department arrested six teens on April 4, charging them with criminal mischief.
Authorities said the teens were playing a hide-and-seek-style game, hiding under vehicles in a driveway late at night while wearing hoodies and face coverings. A homeowner called 911, saying she feared for her safety.
Police said her son responded by firing several warning shots into the ground, prompting the teens to run. They were later located and arrested.
Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said the situation had the potential to turn deadly, noting it would have been understandable for a resident or officer to believe they were under threat and respond with gunfire.
Other departments are now reminding teens to think carefully, respect private property, stay away from dangerous areas like roads and parking lots, and understand that what seems harmless to friends may be frightening to others.
