A small village on a remote Alaska island in the Bering Sea had one postal worker to deliver mail to residence. They ‘had’ one postman, now they have none after their only mail delivery person had to quit because she is pregnant.

All is not lost for the residences of Yup’ik Eskimo community of Savoonga because the U.S. postal service is flying in temporary help to deliver when they can. There will be, and have been, times when they have gone days without mail delivery and that is slowing checks to those who live in the village and cash to the village store (which doubles as the bank).

The mayor of the village is Myron Kingeekuk and it is his daughter who was the postal carrier but had to resign in November when she was 7 months pregnant.
