Airline Popular in Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts Ends Perk Loved by Customers
Unless you are a frequent traveler who has become accustomed to a certain airline, there is a good chance that you are trying to save a few bucks when you travel by plane.
You probably spend at least a few minutes trying to determine which flight is the cheapest.
Or, if you travel occasionally, you may be booking based on the perks you get with certain airlines. Free meals, free internet, or free upgrades to first-class, for example.
Unfortunately, it looks like some notable airlines are starting to do-away with those perks.
In July of 2024, we learned that Southwest Airlines we doing away with their decades old perk of open seating. For years, customers were able to wander onto their flight and pick whatever seats they wanted. Not anymore.
Now, we are hearing that the company is getting rid of another beloved perk.
According to an article on the WABI website, Southwest Airlines is going to start charging for checked bags.
The article explains that it will cost customers $35 for their first bag and $45 for their second bag. Weight and size limits will apply to checked bags.
The new policy will not affect all of their passengers, though.
Southwest Airlines will maintain its policy of offering two free checked bags to Rapid Rewards A-List Preferred members and customers traveling on Business Select fares. A-List members and other select customers will be allowed one free checked bag. Additionally, passengers who hold Rapid Rewards credit cards will receive a credit for one checked bag.
The checked bag policy will affect anyone who books tickets going forward.
For those who had been counting on the free bags to save a few bucks, the airline has said that they will soon be offering a new basic fare ticket.
