Judge Accepts Guilty Plea in Waterville, Maine, Murder Case
For the second time in as many months, a 21-year-old Waterville man has entered a guilty plea in murder charges against him.
In August, Superior Court Justice Michaela Murphy rejected Spridal Hubiak's guilty plea in the killing of his coworker, 52-year-old Angela Bragg.
After she met with lawyers for both sides in her chambers Justice Murphy rejected his plea over concerns about his competency.
According to WMTW, all parties were back in court on Friday (October 11th).
This time, the judge did accept the plea deal. However, before accepting the deal, which prevented Hubiak from getting a life sentence, the judge asked the defendant a series of questions to make sure he understood he was waiving his right to a trial.
Hubiak had reportedly admitted to stabbing Bragg to death on the night of December 27th, 2023. The killing happened at the Waterville store where both worked.
Following the killing, Hubiak fled Central Maine. After a 4-day manhunt, he was apprehended in Arkansas.
The article explains that a sentencing date for Hubiak has been set, but officials were not willing to release that information at this time. Assistant District Attorney Lisa Bogue reportedly told reporters that information would be released in a press release at a later time.
