For many people, the long Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the summer season.

A near record number of people are expected to take to the roads over the long weekend.  According to a recent survey done by AAA, over 45 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home.  Those who are not planning to travel are likely to spend the long weekend BBQing, boating, and taking advantage of an additional night of partying.

For millions of others, however, it is a solemn occasion where we take time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Typically, unlike most major holidays (Christmas, 4th of July, etc), the majority of businesses are open on Memorial Day.  Grocery stores, big box stores, restaurants, etc.

There are a few notable exceptions to this, though.

According to a recent article in Parade Magazine, several major companies are planning to close on Memorial Day in 2025.

These include:

Costco - The warehouse store chain is generally closed for all major holidays.  Memorial Day is no exception to this rule.  Currently, there is only one Costco location in Maine.  It is located in Scarborough.

The UPS Store - UPS Store locations will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday.  However, the article explains that UPS Express Critical service will be operating on Memorial Day. UPS recommends calling 1-800-714-8779 to learn more about this express service.

FedEx Shipping Centers - The article explains that some locations will be closed on Memorial Day.  Your best bet is to call your local FedEx location to confirm their hours for that Monday.

Local Businesses - When it comes to local businesses, your best bet is to check out their hours on website/social media or to call them.

Regardless of how you choose to spend Memorial Day weekend, we hope you do it safely.
