If you have lived in an area for more than a few years, there is a good chance you have seen some major changes in your town.

Businesses close and they are replaced by new businesses.  Old buildings are demolished to make way for new buildings.

Even though we hate seeing businesses close, sometimes those closures benefit other local businesses.

What's Happening at the Old Stratham Tire in Augusta?

After being at 170 Riverside Drive in Augusta for over a decade, the Augusta Stratham Tire location closed earlier this year.

It appears that the company has gone out of business, with many of its locations being purchased by Sullivan Tire.  The locations not purchased by other tire companies have closed.

After sitting vacant for a number of weeks, it looks like the old Stratham Tire building is getting a new life as a gym.

The Shop CrossFit

For several years, The Shop CrossFit was our neighbor at the Augusta Plaza.

As a guy who gets to work early in the morning, I loved having them as a work neighbor because they started their classes early.  That meant they were getting to work at the same time I was.  Actually, in most cases, they got to work before I did.  Sometimes, just seeing other people out and about at that hour makes this job seem a little less lonely.  Yes, I know that sounds lame, but it is how I feel.

Well, the days of having them as work neighbors are over.

Over the weekend, The Shop staff packed up the studio and moved across town.

They are now located in the old Stratham Tire building at 170 Riverside Drive in Augusta.  After a busy couple of days, it appears they reopened for business on Monday morning.

A Facebook post from Sunday evening said, in part:

We’re reopening for classes tomorrow, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome you all back. A huge thank you to everyone who pitched in—we couldn’t have made this happen without the help of our wonderful community.

We wish them all the best in their new location.  Get more details about the business on their Facebook page or check out their website.
