Students Inspired By St. Michael School Principal Cancer Battle

According to the KJ, after hearing about St. Michael School principal Kevin Cullen's battle with cancer, the school's students decided to hold a "penny war".

During the first week of December, the students of the Augusta school collected pennies, although many nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars were tossed into the collection buckets, as well.  Donations were also accepted at school functions.

The goal had been to raise $2,000 for The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, where Cullen is currently getting treatment.  In the end, the students raised over $4,853!

It was the school's fifth grade class that won the classroom competition.  They collected over $650.  They'll be getting a pizza party and a movie as a prize.
