According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, police have identified the man killed outside a Lewiston bar early on Wednesday morning.

The Lewiston Police Department reportedly received multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance and shots fired outside the tavern at 69 Sabattus Street shortly before 1 AM on Wednesday, September 2nd.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Central Maine Medical Center. The man, identified as 37-year-old Travis Hunter of Lisbon, was pronounced dead. The woman was treated for her injuries and later released.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South was called in to assist with the investigation.

According to investigators, the man who fired the shots has been identified and is cooperating with law enforcement.

An autopsy performed at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined that Hunter died from a gunshot wound to the chest. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Investigators say they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no known threat to the public.

The investigation remains ongoing.  Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or was in the area of the Blue Goose Tavern around the time of the incident is asked to contact the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit at 207-624-7076.
